This is the most common method used to treat root exposure. During the procedure, a flap of gum is cut at the roof of your mouth (palate) and tissue from under the flap, called subepithelial connective tissue, is removed and then stitched to the gum tissue surrounding the exposed root.
Subepithelial Grafts are autogenous – which means your own tissue is utilized for the grafting procedure. A clear surgical retainer will be fabricated for you to wear for a few days following the procedure. The surgical retainer will protect the roof of the mouth and aids in making the healing process more comfortable.
Free Gingival Graft
A free gingival graft is often performed when there is a need to increase or establish the presence of firm, the protective gum tissue around a tooth or dental implant.
It is recommended when there is a need to correct acquired deficiencies of inadequate tissue coverage, usually on lower anterior teeth. Free Gingival Grafts are autogenous – which means your own tissue is utilized for the grafting procedure.
